Frequently Asked Questions

Are counselling sessions confidential?
Absolutely. Your confidentiality is a top priority and is protected in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. The only exceptions to this are specific legal requirements, such as when there is a disclosure of intent to harm yourself or others, involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, or issues related to child protection. Beyond these exceptions, your confidentiality is fully safeguarded. All client data is handled in strict accordance with GDPR regulations and BACP guidelines.

What happens if I'm late or unable to attend a session?
If you're running late, you can still attend your session unless you are more than 20 minutes late. Should you need to reschedule or cancel a session, please notify me via email or phone at least 24 hours in advance. If cancellation occurs within 24 hours, the session fee will still apply. If I’m ever unable to attend a session due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, I will notify you as soon as possible.

How will my information be kept, stored, and used?
Your information is handled with the utmost care and is in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation. I’m registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and follow the BACP’s data processing guidelines to ensure your personal details are securely stored and used appropriately.

How many sessions will I need, and how often?
The number and frequency of sessions depend entirely on your individual needs and circumstances. We can discuss this during our initial session. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, typically with one session per week. For therapy sessions funded by employers, the number of sessions is usually limited to between 6 and 12.

How do I pay for my session?
Session fees are payable via bank transfer in advance of your appointment. Once you’ve booked a session, I will send you the payment details by email.

Can I pay through my insurance?
You can discuss this with your insurance provider to see if they agree to cover therapy sessions with me. If your insurance provider consents to cover the sessions, there should be no issue.

What happens when I end my counselling with you?
Ending counselling is an important step, and I recommend we discuss it before you take a break or conclude our sessions to ensure you're in a good place. You’re always welcome to return and resume sessions whenever you feel the need.

Do you offer discounts?
Yes, I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for individuals on low incomes. Please be prepared to provide written proof of your financial situation, and note that there may be a waiting period for these spaces.

Are you regulated?
Yes, I am a fully qualified, insured, and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). You can view my professional membership and ethical standards by visiting www.bacp.co.uk.
